This comment sums up the main flaws : “unimpressive set of widgets” and no modularity support, i.e. “static application” only, no “shred library” equivalent. Which was a known problem from the start, when it was called CPS 2.0, before Bruce and Joel went independent and got bought by Google.

Huh. ECMAscript 3.1 instead of the major jump to 4.0? Douglas Crockford cites premature standardization as an evil (which it is) to be avoided (rightly) calling this a wise change of course. Still reading up on what happened, but so far I think I agree.
